Americans spend billions of dollars each year on lower back pain, the most common cause of job-related disability and a leading contributor to absenteeism. Back pain is the second most common neurological ailment in the United States — only the headache is more common.
When people lift something that's too heavy, jump off the porch, or shovel too much snow, etc., the extra downward forces and added shocks force the spine's lower curvature further inward, reducing the space needed for proper nerve and disk function. Muscles in the surrounding area may go into spasm because they are being over stressed. Each time this happens the disks become more wedge shaped. This makes back pain progressive.
As people age, less force is required to send muscles into spasm because the column becomes weaker as the lower curve becomes more pronounced. Years of downward/inward pressure increases the curves. Disk compression and increased spinal curvature are the reasons people become shorter as they reach higher ages.
Traditional solutions are ineffective:
- Drugs address the pain, but not the cause of the pain. They also affect a person's whole body, including the internal organs. At best, pain relievers and muscle relaxers provide short term, minimal pain relief.
- Heating pads increase inflammation, making the pain worse and the time for recovery greater.
- Vibrating massage gadgets are ineffective, and do not promote healing.
- Braces cause muscles to lose strength and flexibility, compounding the problem.
- Inversion tables and traction are ineffective in the lumbar area because they pull in
the wrong direction. It is known that it requires 500-800 lbs. of linear
pull to open the clearances in the lower part of the spine. That's the
weight of a pretty good sized motorcycle.
- An analogy: A bent fork cannot be straightened by
grabbing the ends and pulling in opposite
directions. On the other hand, if you place the bent fork on a table and push
down on the middle of the bend with just one finger, the fork is easily
straightened. The desired result is achieved with much less force applied in the more efficient direction. This is the basis of how the VacuPractor® works.
- Treatment by traction or any of it's offshoots requires two anchor points. One near the hips and the other around the shoulders. Every vertebrae between the two anchor points is affected by the pull. The ones that need it.... AND the ones that don't. The VacuPractor's unique patented method affects only the vertebrae that need it.
- Treatment with an inversion table requires the patient to be flipped up-side-down which puts unnecessary stress on internal organs. To be safe, the patient can only be inverted to 45 degrees and patients are only allowed to be in this position for one minute. This is not nearly enough linear pull to be effective and one minute is not enough time for the patient to relax in this unnatural position.
The VacuPractor®
The patented VacuPractor® is a specially contoured molded plastic shell that provides both pain relief and healing therapy, enabling users to effectively treat their back pain in the comfort of their homes.
The user places the VacuPractor® on a flat surface and lays face up on top of the Vacupractor®. Skin contact is necessary to form an air seal. Next, the user pulls both his/her head and legs towards the chest area expelling the air once trapped between the user's lower back and the Vacupractor® and finally stretches the body flat. This creates a vacuum effect to exert two forces on the lower spine simultaneously: 1) a lengthening force as the pelvic plate rocks forward and 2) an outward pull, that when combined produce remarkable results.
The VacuPractor® stretches the muscles in the lower back, while a second pressure holds the spine in a straighter more natural position. The VacuPractor® is the ONLY device that pulls straight out on the over-curvature in the lower spine (lordosis), a force that a Chiropractor or Physical Therapist is not able to achieve. The VacuPractor® is used in a relaxed supine position.
These pressures working together stretch tired and strained muscles, allowing them to relax without medication. They also relieve pressure on the disks in this area.
