The Pooper ScooperTM
Slide Show

Scoop the waste onto the tray which swivels upright automatically, so the waste falls right into the bag, where it's out of sight.
The Problem To Be Solved:

Americans love their pet dogs: statistics show that four out of 10 households own at least one dog*. Yet dealing with dog feces on a daily basis is an extremely distasteful aspect of owning a dog.

Although there are numerous "pooper scooper" laws across the country, in the past enforcement has been weak and approximately 40% of pet owners still do not pick up their pet's waste.

While the repugnant smell and sight of dog feces is the most obvious result, most people aren't aware of the serious health and environmental risks posed by dog waste.

Dog feces contains a variety of bacteria, viruses and parasites that are communicable and harmful to humans. When it's left on hard flat surfaces such as streets, parking lots and lawns, it's less likely to decompose and can get washed into drains and ditches which end up flowing to the local waterways, especially during rainy seasons.

Recent improvements in tracking methods have now been able to link dog waste with environmental and water pollution. Pet waste is ranked third or fourth on the list of contributors to bacteria in contaminated waters.

The Environmental Protection Agency has identified pet waste as a major cause of pollution, and many urban and suburban cities are starting to enforce fines from $10 to $2,000 per violation against pet owners who do not pick up their pet waste.

Pooper ScooperTM

The Pooper ScooperTM makes the process of picking up dog feces an easy and sanitary process for pet owners. With its sleek and lightweight design, it is easy to carry along and use on pet walks.

Other products have an open holding area for the waste, requiring immediate disposal into a trash receptacle. But due to the nature of walking dogs, a trash receptacle is not always nearby when needed. Thus it's awkward to carry the waste inside existing devices without dropping or spilling a portion along the way. The waste is also visible and smelly during the trip, as well as embarrassing to pet owners.

With an attached disposable bag to collect the pet waste, the Pooper ScooperTM is spill-proof, and there's no urgent need to find a trash container. Once scooped onto the tray, it swivels upright so the waste falls right into the bag, making it self-contained and out-of-sight during the transport to the trash container. When ready to throw out the waste, simply remove the bag and toss it. Scooping the waste into the bag also prevents the waste from directly sticking to the inside walls of the scooper during the transport.

The design of the Pooper ScooperTM has also taken into consideration other problems with dog waste devices, and includes the following benefits:

  1. The forked front part of the scooper tray assists in collecting waste in deep grass or weeded areas.
  2. It includes a handy rake which securely clips onto the handle when not in use.
  3. Once the waste has been collected, the front tray pivots automatically in an upward position.
  4. In steep inclines, it has a temporary lock to hold the tray at the desired angle.

The Pooper ScooperTM design is also customizable. The size and shape can be designed for tall or short people, as well as for smaller or larger animals. It can be made in a variety of materials including rubber, plastic, metal, aluminum, fiberglass, etc.

*Statistics according to the American Pet Products Manufacturers Association indicate that in 2000, there were 68 million pet dogs in the U.S.
