As we face the new millennium, we continue to be challenged with many concerns. One of these is the depletion of the earth’s ozone layer which increases people’s exposure to damaging ultraviolet radiation from the sun.
Over exposure to ultraviolet radiation is the number one cause of skin cancer. According to the American Cancer Society, 32,000 new cases of melanoma skin cancer are reported every year. Ultraviolet radiation also accounts for approximately 90% of the symptoms of premature skin aging.
While many individuals currently use some form of protection from the sun like sunscreens, they aren’t always effective since people don’t know how to use them properly - they often don’t apply enough sunscreen, or don’t re-apply it throughout their activities. Thus, the best form of prevention is to remain out of the direct sunlight by being physically shielded when outdoors.
COLLAPSIBLE UMBRELLA CHAIR
The Umbrella Chair is a portable, collapsible chair with an umbrella mounted to the back of the chair, that shields individuals from harmful ultraviolet radiation while outside. The angle of the umbrella can be adjusted according to the sun’s changing angles throughout the day, thus providing an effective shield.

After use, the umbrella can be quickly removed from the chair, and the chair easily folds and collapses for storage. When folded, it takes minimal space, and is stored in a carry-on case.
