Many garages, including standard A-frame sheds and barns, have gaps between the rafters supporting the roof of the building and the side walls of the building. While the gaps provide ventilation, they also facilitate bird infestation by providing a path for birds, insects and the like to enter the building.

A variety of birds can use these areas as a temporary or a permanent home base, and even build nests or roost once inside. The resulting bird droppings not only pose a sanitary problem, but often cause damage to the contents and occupants.

Bird droppings are destructive to automotive paint because once dry, they are difficult to remove, requiring chemical solutions and scrubbing to remove. The droppings are also a nuisance to continually clean up over a period of time. In addition, insects such as bees or wasps are able to get in and potentially sting humans that are inside.
