Escape Chute

Unique features & benefits:

It is horrifying to watch TV news stories about people who died, unable to escape burning highrise buildings. In such emergency situations, the goal is to get out of a building as quickly as possible - and seconds are critical!

Elevators are considered unsafe and often shut down automatically. So the only way out of highrise is down the stairwell. Yet taking the stairs is not the quickest method of descent, and does not work to quickly evacuate the handicapped or elderly. Also, if there is smoke in the stairwell, poor visibility makes it difficult to see the stairs.

The Escape Chute is a permanent and reusable preparedness solution for highrise building owners that is designed to help evacuate a highrise in an emergency in the quickest timeframe possible, while maintaining safety.

When not in use, the aluminum chute is hinged to the stair well wall, serving as a handrail. In an emergency, it is activated in seconds by breaking a seal and pulling a handle, which allows it to immediately open into a slide bed that connects landing to landing at a 36 percent grade.

Resembling an aluminum playground slide, the Escape Chute enables people to slide down building stairwells in two-thirds less time than it takes to run down the stairs, taking just 2 seconds to come down every landing at maximum speed.

However, users can control the rate of their descent by using the handrail and the slide is curved slightly at the end allowing users to land on their feet in a near standing position. The slide is also narrow, allowing room for people descending the stairs by foot.
